The Scarlet Swords

A roving band of mercenaries that plies its trade across various systems on the fringes of Imperial space, the Scarlet Swords are more a brotherhood of exiles than a unified military force, composed of outcast Astartes who left their Chapters for various reasons and have come together for a common cause. Identifiable by their scavenged power armor and the red saltires painted over their former Chapters' iconography (a ritual likely adopted from a practice common among early defectors to the Red Corsairs), Scarlet Swords kill teams have been reported in conflicts across a wide variety of worlds, striking at Imperial, piratical, Xenos, and Chaos targets alike, and, if rumors are to be believed, their employers have ranged from pirate collectives to planetary governors to some of the more radically minded agents of the Inquisition. Few know how the Swords determine what jobs they take, or even how to contact them (former employers interrogated by the Inquisition always insist that the Swords found them first), but few can deny their stalwart commitment to their contracts or their fearsome skills on the battlefield.
